Mr. Su-gil Lee
10th-Nov-2006 10:41 pm
I was always taught in UBF that Korean nurses were able to get jobs in Germany because Dr. Samuel Lee prayed for world mission with burning heart. But the following article says a quite different story:

"...Lee, who went to Germany for study in 1959, played a leading role for Korean nurses to get jobs in the European country. In 1967, he returned home after being blackmailed repeatedly by South Korea’s intelligence agency. Taken into custody, Lee was tortured with high-voltage electricity in the basement of the agency, his toes linked to the poles of a power generator. Interrogators continued to raise the generator’s output, since his left leg was not responsive to the current due to childhood paralysis. Despite 10 days of torture, the agency failed to force him to falsely confess that he was a spy..."

Mr. Su-gil Lee was behind the story. He did something much better for the Korean nurses than Dr. Samuel Lee did. But Mr. Su-gil Lee has suffered the rest of his life while Dr. Samuel Lee is still glorified for taking advantage of Mr. Su-gil Lee's sacrifice. All the UBF Korean nurses must thank Mr. Su-gil Lee for his suffering than Dr. Samuel Lee for helping them to get jobs in European countries.

South Korea, the world's largest market for TOEFL. I think most of these people are UBF missionary candidates?

Mostly male missionary candidates need to make such an effort. The females just wait to be paired with an American shepherd.

Korea wants native English speakers. This is a good opportunity to go to Korea as a missionary.

A teacher's authority and power in Korean high school

According to the news article, Korean high schools enforce strict hair style code. When students violate this code, teachers can cut their hairs by force as seen on the pictures. The students are so mad and they are picketing for "student's right" to protect their hairs.

When I was in highschool, this kind of teacher's authority was considered normal. If anyone would raise voice against it, he would be punished more severely for being rebelious against teacher's authority. All of us were forced to respect teacher's authority no matter what and conform to any school code.

The article does not indicate what Lee did to bring Korean nurses to Germany.

Samuel Lee will receive credit in UBF for many events having nothing to do with him. That is one defintion of a cult. Giving the leader credit when it is undeserved. Conversely, cult leaders never receive blame when it is deserved. No one in UBF will be compensated for the abuse imposed by Lee and his hencemen.
