Extreme Easter
7th-Apr-2007 07:52 am
"More than a dozen Filipinos were nailed to crosses and scores more whipped their backs into a bloody pulp on Friday in a gory ritual to mark the death of Jesus Christ.

The voluntary crucifixions in the northern Philippines were the most extreme displays of religious devotion in this mainly Catholic country, where millions are praying and fasting ahead of the Easter weekend..."

The above news article made me think about "extreme" religious practices. "Nailing oneself to cross" and "whipping his back into a bloody pulp" are clearly extreme "religious" practices. But how about "other" extreme religious practices?

In UBF there are so many "required" conferences such as Easter conference, Srping conference, Summer Bible conference, Fall Bible conference, Winter Bible conference, Directors conference, Students conference, Staff conference, etc. But someone might ask, "Is having many bible conferences bad?" But then one can ask again, "Is having so many conferences good?" But this kind of question is out of the question in UBF. If you do not atend any of these conferences, you are not a disciple of Jesus in UBF. If you do not attend any of the conferences in UBF, you are a humanistic and worldly Christian. Should I say that this is a little bit extreme "religious" practice? But this is not the end of the story. There are so many meetings in UBF that one has to attend if he wants to avod being condemned as a "lukewarm" Christian. You have to write at least one testimony and share it in public every week. If you do not confess your sin of the week specifically in your testimony, you are a sinner who does not have "absolute" attitude toward the word of God. Oh, then you have to carry out at least 12 one-to-one bible study and to bring at least 12 sheep to Sunday Worship Service "by any means". Otherwise your devotion to God must be questioned and criticized in public so you can do better next time. Or one can just "nail himself to cross" and "whip his back into a bloody pulb in a gory ritual" to show his sincere devotion in UBF. How about aborting a baby to serve God better? Or how about violating human rights to "help" sheep better?
