Dr. Lee from Korea
2nd-Aug-2006 12:45 am
Another Korean Christian cult leader by the name Dr. Lee. Or did we mention him already? I don't remember. Last week he organized a big three-day church revival in New York, Madison Garden (see here).
3rd-Aug-2006 04:15 pm (UTC) - Dr. Samuel Lee back from the dead??
When I checked the Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee’s church website, I was so surprised to find the very close similarity between his church and UBF. I invite everyone to read especially the testimonies by the members who sincerely admire Dr. Jaerock Lee. They look like the exact copy of UBF testimonies! The following are some excerpts from the testimonies.

“We also heard the testimonies of so many people who received God's healing of their diseases through Rev. Dr. Lee's prayer that transcended time and space.”

“I give all thanks and glory to my Father God for His delicate love that allowed the births of the new generation in our family, and I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee for his prayer of love.”

“My husband (Deacon Dong-pil Lee) had been healed of gastric ulcer by the prayer of Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee in December 2005, but he also rent his heart in repentance of having gotten lazy with worship and prayer because of his constant night work.”

“At the time, my mother-in-law had just attended "The Two-week Special Revival Meeting with Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee" and received healing of her rheumatoid arthritis. She urged my wife to receive Rev. Dr. Lee's prayer and we ended up receiving his prayer together. Miraculously, as I found out later, the moment we received his prayer my wife said her body felt very "cool" all of a sudden and the severe pain already disappeared.”

Then I became ashamed of my life which I had lived only for myself. I was also grateful to find myself slowly transforming into a good person as I listened to the life-filled messages of Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee. My heart in the past had been hardened from the difficult life I was living, as I kept placing all the blame on my husband, sister-in-law, and parents-in-law, and never stopped my grumbling and complaining.”

“Nowadays, instead of alcohol, I am drenched in Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee's messages that are sweeter than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb! Hallelujah!”

“As you know, the Muan Sweet Water was transformed from bitter seawater into sweet, potable water by the prayer of Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee and has been manifesting all kinds of healing to countless people. We also had Jae-woo receive the Senior Pastor's "Prayer for the Sick" recorded on an automated telephone message.”

This interesting testimony shows how Rev Jaerock Lee’s churches are being pioneered. The following excerpt from the testimony shows very close similarity to UBF chapter pioneering.

“Then in February 1998, I registered at Manmin Joong-ang Church and gained hope in life as I listened to Rev. Dr. Jaerock Lee's messages during the early days of my life in Christ. I met the living God in the lives of brothers and sisters in Christ who were healed of a variety of diseases and in the testimonies of those who received His answers in the most difficult and desperate of situations. From the depths of my heart flowed joy and gratitude. After some time, along with the wife of my husband's younger brother Deaconess In-sook Park, I began imploring to God in tears for an opportunity to spread the gospel of sanctification in the Yichon area I was living at the time. While it was possible to attend Friday All-night and Sunday Services at the main sanctuary in Seoul, the Yi-chon area was in need of a branch sanctuary where people could gather for the Daniel Prayer Meeting and Wednesday Evening Services. My husband readily lent us his empty office and Deaconess Park and I met there every night to pray together. Then on April 29, 1999, the Yi-chon Branch Sanctuary was founded. After offering God the Founding Service in unspeakable joy and gratitude, I endeavored to give Him the "Construction Offering" despite the difficult financial situations at home.”

In this testimony, you will see a very familiar picture of Korean fan dance and orchestra performance.

The praise and thanksgiving given to human leaders sure sounds familiar.

In my time, Sam Lee was also given credit in many sogams for somehow healing physical ailments, even baldness, with his quack treatments or "advise."

Assuming that Dr. Jaerock Lee has a special gift to heal many sick people, could we say that he is using the special gift in a proper way or in a biblical way? As one can see from many tesitimonies and video clips available on his church website, he seems to be advertising his special healing power to the public.

When we read the Bible, we see that Jesus never advertised his healing power to the public. In fact he told everyone not to advertise his healing power during his public ministry. For example, after Jesus healed a man with leprosy, he gave the man a strong warning not to tell anyone about his healing him.

However his disciples didn't like Jesus' idea. They thought they should make a big advertisement about Jesus' power on Jerusalem Daily, Capernaum Channel 7, Bethany Radio AM600, and on the internet as Dr. Jaerock Lee does so that they could make a great and prosperous business organization using Jesus' power.

I don't think Dr. Jaerock Lee is using his special healing power in a way that Jesus could receive all the glory and his sheep could grow spiritually. I think he is using his God-given power to glorify himself and to expand his business at the expense of his poor sheep's spiritual well-being. When Samuel Lee created "spiritual environment" in UBF to glorify his power and authority, he was committing the same as Dr. Jaerock Lee is committing right now. Samuel Lee was a thief and Dr. Jaerock Lee is a thief who is trying to steal sheep's heart.

One way to find whether or not an organization is a cult: Just see what is being advertised; is it the grace of Jesus or is it the charisma of the leader of the organization?
