A most brutal education
8th-Sep-2006 11:04 pm
UBF-style abusive training is nothing new in Korea.

The article says:

Many of those arrested were forced to undergo a combination of imprisonment and brutal training under the surveillance of armed military police; according to a National Assembly report, 52 died during their "education," 397 died soon after as a result, and 2,678 were left with severe mental or physical injuries.

Sam Lee's sermons or announcements occasionally included praise for a Korean military dictator/President who, for the purpose of "restoring order," rounded up criminals and vagrants and "bad characters" and shipped them to an island where they were never heard from again. I think he may have been talking about Park Chung Hee, but I'm not sure. Seems that Lee was an admirer of the methods of a few military dictators. Do you happen to know where Samcheong Gyoyukdae is?

Samcheong Gyoyukdae was like a boot camp set up in military to train criminals and vagrants and "bad characters". But there were lots of reports about "human right" violation during this training. I am sure the training included running on bare feet, beatings, early morning gatherings (like 4AM), writing repenteance testimonies etc..

One can think of UBF as Samcheong Gyoyukdae to raise up special task force for world mission. During this process, human rights can be violated in UBF as Samuel Lee claimed. Samuel Lee claimed that Jesus didn't mind violating human rights to help the Samaritan woman, which is the spirit of Samcheong Gyoyukdae. And of course there was no romance in Samcheong Gyoyukdae as it isn't allowed in UBF.
